Little Birch Tree" is a well-known folk song from Russia, in which the singer plans to make a balalaika from the wood of the tree. Tchaikovsky used the melody in the finale of his Fourth Symphony. This arrangement was created for performance by three young recorder students of varying abilities-note that Soprano 2 uses only D, E, G, A, and B-with the teacher playing the tenor. The tenor part is also playable by a student, provided that she or he has the reach to play low F. The phrases are three measures long, as indicated by the slur marks. Attacks should be legato throughout, and the penultimate quarter note of each phrase "leaned" on.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
