Colors of the Wind"is a song written by lyricist Stephen Schwartzand composer Alan Menken forWalt Disney Pictures'33rd animated feature film Pocahontas(1995). The film's theme song,"Colors of the Wind" was originally recorded by American singer andactress Judy Kuhn in her role as the singing voice of Pocahontas. Apop ballad, the song's lyrics are about animism and respecting nature, and have beencompared to both transcendentalistliterature and New Age spirituality.

"Colors of theWind" received a mostly positive reception from critics, with several themciting it as one of the best songs from a Disney film. The song would go on towin the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture,Television or Other Visual Media, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.American actress and recording artist Vanessa Williams's adult contemporarycover of the song was released as the lead single from the film's soundtrack, and became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

This was the theme songto Pocahontas, the hugely popular animated Disney film about the NativeAmerican princess who saved the life of American explorer John Smith, ultimately contributing to the founding of the United States.

The song finds Pocahontas chastising Smith forhis arrogance and ignorance, telling him that he doesn't understand the wondersof nature. The line "Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?"is where she makes the point that even though he stakes his claim to the Earth,he doesn't know how to nurture it.

Scored for piccolo, 5 c flutes, 2 alto flutes in g ( first and second) , 2 bass flutes ( 2nd is opt but adds to depth and overall effect) and contra bass flute.  aprx 6 mins in length a great piece for Thanksgiving, Earth day, cartoon themes, movie themes, disney themes, princess and fairytale themes, etc.  your flute ensembel will enjoy playing as well as your audience enjoy listening. The first complex, grown-up , intermediate to advanced arrangement of this timeless song.
