Poor facsimiles of some of the classics. Claire de Lune & Lacrimosa for starters are not acceptable. We all have Moonlight Sonata and Fur Elise already so the fact that these are originals doesn't help.

Some pieces like Clair de Lune and Humoresque aren't the original versions. Some of the keys for left hand to play in Clair de Lune is cut down by half, so it wouldn't have the breath-taking effect like those you heard from professionals on CD... If you...

're looking for something not too difficult to play and don't mind it doesn't sound the same, this can be for you. But the editor should have at least indicated that some are simplified versions instead of just putting the original composer's name there. That's why I rate it 3 stars.

    Difficulty Level:
  • February 10, 2002 Excellent selection; scanty details

This book contains an excellent selection of pieces, including the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, some of Scott Joplin's best rags, and works by Debussy, Chopin, Granados and Zez Confrey. Unfortunately there are no details of the dates of composition, and the book does not tell you...

if the work is in its original or a simplified form. For example, the version of Debussy's Clair De Lune is a simplified one in a different key from the original. It is a very satisfying easy version, but it would be helpful if the book gave you more details about the pieces contained in it. When you consider the large number of pieces in the book, and the wide range of sryles, the price is excellent, and the book is spiral bound and should last for years.
