In 1670, Jacques Champion de Chambonnieres had brought out thte two volumes of his Pieces de Clavecin, and Jean-Nicolas Lebegue's Pieces de Clavecin, Premier Livre, had come off the press in 1677. Jacquet de La Guerer's collection, with its dedication to Louis XIV, was a statement to the world that here was a young musician claiming her place among the first rank of French harpsichordists.
