    The Lennon and McCartney tunes included in the Hal Leonard book were given a slightly new aire via the jazz idiom. I especially liked "And I Love Her". I had never thought of giving that Beatle standard a Latin feel. I really liked the example the tenor saxophonist on the...

    play-a-long gave of "Ticket to Ride". After listening to the original Beatle version again, I'm not so sure that the two aren't that different, except that the play-a-long swung just a bit harder and had a cooler timbre. I've heard the opinion of some that were originally steeped in rhythm-and-blues playing that the Beatles were a little jazzy or lended themselves to jazz, but some of the examples given on the play-a-long were really quite clever. Not only were "And I Love Her" and "Ticket to Ride" cleverly done, but I felt "Here, There, and Everywhere" was also very novel.
