  • April 22, 2010 Must Have for Cello Enthusiasts

Concert cellists have expanded the repertoire with the birth of these entertaining, rthymic, and easy-to-enjoy (by general public) pieces by Piazzolla. This is *the* most developed cello solo piece by Piazzolla. A bit long but from the cellist's point of view... loads of fun! You'll enjoy...

it most when your technical level allows you to play octave double stops with eyes closed and without a sweat!

  • October 03, 2008 The Soul of the Tango

You can hear this piece performed by Yo Yo Ma on his CD, "The Soul of the Tango", though I don't think the recording captures the percussiveness of the piano part. There are several You Tube video performances of this piece as well, good for comparison. The cello part...

has a mistake: measure 65 is missing the change to the bass clef on the 3rd beat.

  • May 12, 2008 Great arrangement

Excellent addition to viola repertoire: interesting harmonically but not too difficult. Piano part is fairly difficult but section repetitions mean work on one section applies to others. Piano is mostly accompaniment, with only one cadenza and a few melody sections. For viola part, very legible printing, but too few staffs...

per page, making way too many page turns (and few rests or obvious place to turn).

  • April 15, 2008 Concert Fantasia from Argentina

Astor Piazzolla was a well schooled composer. Some of his compositions in the tango form are worth just listening to. Don't think of Le Grand Tango as a tango. Think of it as a concert fantasia. Its opening section is rhythmically percussive. The middle section is plaintive. The final...

section is powerfully rhythmically pulsating. This is a composition you can take liberties with. Le Grand Tango is a piece of music you can use to say what you want to say with your playing.
