Composed by Cesar Auguste Franck. Arranged by Hans-Andre Stamm. Concert,Romantic Period. Score. 16 pages. Hans-Andre Stamm #3046709. Published by Hans-Andre Stamm (A0.853070).

Franck's string quartet, written in 1882, has been esteemed from the beginning. The 2nd movement, Larghetto with its yearning chord progressions, the far-swung lyrical melodies, the passionate climax and the almost etherical pp-passages can be regarded as a precursor of the famous three Chorals for organ, which are the swan song and musical testament of his organ composition. Thus the Larghetto can be seen as a sort fourth Choral, perfectly in the style of his last organ works and means an important addition to the romantic organ repertoire.
