Composed by Bernadine Johnson. Piano Suite; Piano Supplemental. Recital Suite Series. Form: Suite. Sheet. 12 pages. Alfred Music #00-29100. Published by Alfred Music (AP.29100).

Item Number: AP.29100

Bernadine Johnson's Land of Lincoln is a moving musical tribute to the state of Illinois and Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States. The first movement, also titled Land of Lincoln, conveys the grandeur and the nostalgia of Lincoln's Farewell Address, given to the citizens of Springfield, Illinois when he left for the White House. It also features a portion of the Illinois state song. Prairie Morning, the second movement, is a peaceful, unhurried display of life on the prairie. The final movement, The Windy City, is a blustery portrait of Chicago, a city famous for the breezes from Lake Michigan.

The opening piece of this suite is grand and moving - a true gem in the late intermediate piano repertoire . The whole suite is fun to play and is well worth the bit of work it might take to play.

This is a wonderful piece! So dramatic and expressive! I love it!! One of my more advanced students rates it as the best piece she has ever played.

"Land of Lincoln" opens this 3 piece intermediate set with impressive chords and a lovely melody, but I would definitely clarify the pedaling. "Prairie Morning" uses Coplandesque harmonies to open this espressive piece. Care should be taken to avoid stretching for the LH intervals, but it's the kind of...

piece that leaves you satisfied. "Winter Wind" is fast, fun and worth the effort.
