    Much of Ravel's famous music (Bolero is the exception) existed first as piano music and then as orchestral music. La Valse, however, is the opposite. It is a tone poem that both pays tribute to and mocks the Viennese waltz. Ravel has transcribed his own symphonic poem for piano...

    solo, and the result is amazing. Very little of the overall effect is lost. Because this is true, the piece becomes quite technically demanding at places, but in the end the challenges are ultimately surmountable. I recommend this piece to anyone in search of an unorthodox challenge.
