  • April 20, 2011 The best edition

I had the G. Schirmer edition of the piano sonatas for about a year, when my piano teacher recommended that I got an urtext edition. The urtext edition is a whole other universe! This edition is very clear and accurate. It is printed on beautiful non-glare paper with very...

clear printing. The binding is perfect; the book opens flat, but it stays together very well. This is by far the best urtext edition for the Mozart sonatas.

  • April 14, 2009 my favorite mozart

If you play a lot you need great editions of music. I don't have to sell Henle if you already know. But if you don't: The off-white tint of the paper is easy on the eyes. The notes are incredibly legible, the fingering suggestions are worth the...

price of admission, the page breaks are always in the right place, and the binding is strong...need I go on?

For the serious musician, nothing else compares. This edition is urtext, it is easy to read, and it is durable. The reason it's so important to use urtext editions is because they contain exactly what the composer wrote, and therefore allow you to more accurately interpret what he or...

    she intended.

  • November 09, 2007 I say it is overrated.

I don't understand why so many people praise the Henle urtext editions. Yes, I also think they are one of the better kinds, but unless you are a scholary expert in musicology, you can't really know if it is really better than other editions by any objective means...

. Many of those who say this is the best are simply being pretentious I would say. Also I found that the fingerings to be awfully awkward in many instances. If one is at the level to play these music, one should be able to figure out the fingerings for himself/herself.
