Beide Kanons sind im strengen Stil gehalten, wirken aber ganz unterschiedlich: Während der erste das Strömen des Flusses in tonaler Harmonik illustriert, versinnbildlicht der zweite (für Frauenchor gedachte) Kanon wildes Tratschen durch Klangballungen und Akzentverschiebungen. Die ungarischen, deutschen und englischen Sprachvarianten haben jeweils einen ganz eigenen sprachlichen Reiz.
