  • April 24, 2009 Great Music, Lovely book

Kern was less Jazz influenced than Gershwin, but has his own unique way with a melody. I sing these for my own amusement with the guitar, and am struck by how brilliantly he writes for the voice. Wonderful stuff. Each section of this book has something like 'album notes' taken...

from bios of Kern and Hammerstein, and full page photos from the movies and shows that these were part of. So it is delightful to read just as a book. Outstanding!

  • March 28, 2009 Loving the Jerome Kern book

I am very pleased with the Jerome Kern book. The music is clearly easy to see and read from this book and of course, it's all wonderful---it's Jerome Kern!! I do plan to go to my local Office Depot and have the book fixed with a spiral...

binding so it will lie flat on the music stand. Thank you for publishing a neat book for me to enjoy!

This collection has a lot of Kern's classic standards. It is good for anyone who's interested in his music from movies or broadway.

    Warren Rodgers
    Difficulty Level:
  • December 13, 2008 Great collection, but only a start

one of the founding fathers of modern song, and one of the main inspiration of the next generation of geniuses - Rodgers ahead - Jerome Kern wrote a good bunch of essential songs - my favourites from this collection include "The Folks Who Love On The Hill", "Dearly Beloved" or "Remind Me" and...

the eternally elegant "Yesterdays", "They Didn't Believe Me" and "The Night Was Made For Love". For some reasons, I find Jerome Kern's current "printed legacy" to be lacking, in terms of volume of available work. That shouldn't keep you away from this book though: highly recommended !
