Carissimi isn't as big a name as he ought to be in the world of the early Baroque. With his signature passagio-spanning leaps and lovely fioritura he should be a standard for any soprano interested in early music. Since this is my background (one of my teachers was...

a member of the New York Pro Musiqua Antiqua) when I discovered this piece in the course of a church job years ago, I was delighted. Filia's Lament, and particularly her Song of Triumph are excellent audition pieces, and since the topic is from the Hebrew Scriptures, it's suitable for church or synagogue. The score is easy to read, and would be valuable as a practice piece for anyone working on large leaps between registers. It's a shame more Carissimi isn't published, particularly his oratorio "Diluvium Universale." Novello? Any interest?
