I find these pieces challenging but still satisfying to play. (Highest level I reached in classical piano playing was Grade VI but that was many years ago!). I have played some of Martha Mier's piano duets and always find her work interesting.

After enjoying book 3 but finding the pieces very easy I found book 5 right up my alley. Apart from the huge notes and therefore lots of page turning the pieces are varied, musical, toe tapping and great for performing. To anyone wanting to branch out from classical this book...

is a must. If you love Martha Mier try Christopher Norton for something different, challenging and lots of delight.

Bought these for my students to get away from the standard classical style of playing. The 8 songs in this book have different style rhythms from blues,Jazz, and Ragtime. This book 5 has some very good syncopated rhythms, plus I have the students also add some improv. or change...

the note durations along with what is written to make the songs sound more lively. Songs in this series are pretty good as written. The Book 5 is easy to read and well organized. Songs are 1 or 2 pages in length. The songs are a series to get into pop/blues/Rag to learn basic syncopated rhythms. Book 5 is for the late intermediate student throughout the book. All 5 Levels of this series are pretty good learning books. Variety of Blues, Jazz, and Ragtime songs from easy to the intermediate/advanced playing student. All the songs have very interesting styles to them. hope this helps.pianomanDT

Excellent! There are not too many intermediate jazz books--most are either easy or too hard. This book contains interesting and playable jazz pieces for the intermediate to advanced student.

I agree with Great. If you like Martha Mier's compositions, you won't be disappointed with her latest jazz book. A few of the pieces are somewhat trickier to play than those in her previous books.
