‘It’s a Man’s World’ was a big hit in 1966, and is still very popular today, as it gives singers an opportunity to display their emotional range and improvisatory skills. I arranged this for my daughter to sing with Capriccio Quartet as a wedding song. If you would like to see a professional recording of this song, complete with the quartet accompaniment, type the name of my channel-Skinny Black Dogs, Capriccio Quartet, It’s a Man’s World, intoYoutube. I have a version for a male and/or a female singer, one semitone lower than the original key. For a small fee I can transpose the parts to suit your voice if you inbox me on Facebook. The introduction for the first violin may take a bit of practice but can be omitted, as in the Youtube version, by beginning with the tremolo dominant seventh chord! In this key, the string parts are suitable for Grade 5 ABRSM for lower strings. As usual in string quartets, the first violinist might need to be of a higher grade. The crucial thing to remember is to be a backing to the singer and not to drown her! At bar 37 there is some tricky bowing. Feel free to use separate bows if it helps, and listen to the recording to get the spirit of those responses. Let me know if you perform it, and how it went!
