The work makes great demands on the soloist and, especially in the more freely fashioned sections, gives him many occasions to display his virtuosity. Of exceptional charm is a section entitled Tempo di Valse which the composer enhanced through two Alternativi. The edition is based on the autograph score preserved in London's British Museum.
