  • May 15, 2012 Cool recital piece

This is an unusual sounding unaccompanied piece, usually played (some might say overplayed) at trumpet recitals. It has several sections separated by pauses. As other folks have noted, the main theme is atonal sounding--but in a good, memorable way. There are other sections that are like little fanfares. The...

range (B-flat above the staff) and technical demands (some triple tongueing, double tongueing if you like) aren't too demanding, but you need to pay close attention to the dynamics and articulation to make it your own.

  • January 18, 2008 Awesome

I am a high school senior playing this for solo and ensemble contest, and I love it. It's very erethral and at the same time, almost march like. The notes come easily enough, but the real difficulty comes from making the piece very musical. A very good buy!

Anyone looking for contemporary and modern (the term atonal comes to mind) unaccompanied music to showcase their talents should look no further. This piece composed in the 50's by Otto Ketting is a wonderful tune, requiring no extreme talents much more than triple tonguing early on in the piece...

. While more somewhat more expensive (imported from the Netherlands, no less) and very atonal in nature (some might find it sounds odd), this piece is a great recommendation for any trumpet or horn player looking to add to their repertoire.

  • April 17, 2005 Good opener

I am a junior music performance major, i feel this piece is a great opener to a trumpet recital. It's more expensive than most standards, (because it's from oversea's) but worth it if you looking for a medium diffuculty piece that accentuates musicality.
