Composed by Mildred T. Pettit, Naomi W. Randall. Arranged by Michael John Bates. Christian, Spiritual, Sacred, Latter-Day Saints, Children's Music. Score, Tablature. 13 pages. Published by Michael John Bates (S0.111263).

Item Number: S0.111263

For solo finger-style guitar with optional violin/C instrument. This is not at all a typical arrangement of this beloved song. Though it has a slight jazzy flare to it, it is still appropriate for church worship services or even funerals. There are three verses when played as a guitar-violin duet. The violin carries the melody on the first verse with the guitar accompaniment. For the second and third verses, the violin part is more of an obligato, with the guitar doing melody and accompaniment in a finger style chord melody. As a guitar solo, the first verse can be omitted. The guitar part does include barre chords and dead-string chords. There are two key modulations and several time signature modulations interspersed throughout the piece. This arrangement has been created for intermediate to advanced guitarists whether you read music or not. Intermediate players will find this arrangement much easier to learn than even less complicated song arrangements because of the extensive use of chord charts for changes in the left hand, a section of explanations and tips from the arranger, and lyrics included to help you know where you are at all times.Although the optional violin part is included in the score, this title includes a "pull-out" violin part as well. The pull-out is also available as a separate purchase for $1.99 in case you need an extra or replacement copy of just the violin part. It could also be played by a flute or other C instrument with some adaptation. It is not fast, but it does use harmonics for some of the very high notes, there is some unfamiliar or unexpected rhythm in it, and it does require more than first position. It is 13 pages including the title page and the Arranger's notes, and it is formatted such that it could easily be printed 2-sided and spiral bound.Duration: approximately 5 minutes when played live. This software-generated audio is 4:10, but the software doesn't do legato very well, nor fermatas, and it doesn't play with much feeling, so please listen only for a general idea of how it goes and use your imagination to hear how great this will sound live!
