I teach piano to any of my grandchildren who want lessons. My two 13-yr-old granddaughters recently each got their own Hymn Duets book, andt I have them switch parts to gain more facility through the keyboard range. They started with "All Creatures of Our God and King", and...

they are close to playing the entire arrangement by memory, so they don't have to turn pages! This is my first Keveren book. His harmonic settings are very supportive of the spirit of each hymn, and he weaves in complementary themes that are lovely and full, yet relatively uncomplicated. The parts played together have a nice rich texture, considering the degree of difficulty. The girls love to work together on this music, and doing so has pushed them both just enough to be an achievable challenge. It's also benefitting their other musical studies. I would definitely get other books by Keveren based on the quality of his musicianship in these duets!

I and my students are enjoying these. I like arranging that is reachable, musical and interesting. And being fit for worship will give students more ministry opportunities; duets share performance jitters, thes will be well received.

This edition seems much more at an intermediate level than intermediate/advanced. I passed it on to someone else as this was not really what I needed.

The hymns take some time to practice alone, but they sound great as duets!
