Gilpin’s original setting offers a fresh, soulful melody and interpretation of this classic hymn text. With optional solo opportunities, Gilpin gives the choir lively vocal and accompaniment lines. Sure to be an audience-pleaser, this toe-tapper is appropriate for any concert or festival. Also available for two-part treble voices (BL765), SSA voices (BL704) and three-part mixed voices (BL152).
The following notes were written by Brian Busch for the original Three-part Mixed setting of this arrangement. They are equally meaningful for this new SATB voicing by Greg Gilpin. The contemporary gospel style is a highly charged, emotional music. It is not recommended that you stand still while performing this work. Clapping and swaying along with well-placed scoops are definitely appropriate. The solist is allowed some extemporaneous latitude. It's important that you have a good time with the music. However, remember the message and let that also determine your demeanor on stage and in the rehearsal room. I feel relatively certain that the shakers would approve this setting.
