Item Number: NX.CHAN-10886-2-

This release is the second volume by the Doric String Quartet in the sequence dedicated to Haydn's String Quartets. Franz Joseph Haydn's (1732-1809) Op. 76, featured here, was the last full set of string quartets that he composed. Published in 1799, they were commissioned by Count Joseph Erdody. The Doric String Quartet is known for their sensitivity in slow movements in particular. Gramophone wrote of Vol. 1, "Allied to precision in articulation is a flexibility in the scansion and shaping of phrases, of notes timed through a remarkable understanding of rubato, of a range of expressive resilience that gives even the smalles of episodes in a long line their own character...and this is Vol 1. Hold your breath for the rest.".
