I love playing "Sweet Child O mine" with accompanied CD that has the guitar and w/out guitar track. Tabs are very accurate and has full solos throughout the song. Reading some of the comments earlier with where you at while jamming the song (measures, etc.) try to hum the...

vocal part (in your mind) or memorize your timing prior such as A melody 4 times, then B melody 4 times and 1st solo take, etc. I also play in the local band as a bassist and I usually give a cue to my drummer and guitarist when they seem to get lost...or give you that look like "when are we changing to next chord progression." Simply nodding or adding gesture will do. This is very common when you get to jam with any musicians for a first time. Playing music accurately is important, yet you wanto explore the timing, feel, and groove. I really love this CD because you feel like you're playing with a real band in the background vice cheap karaoke machine.

  • January 12, 2004 Super Series

This particular book is great, and so is this whole series. It really helps you improve so you can follow along with the track without guitar. The CD also has a "Slow Down" feature that can be used when you pop the CD into your PC. The only downside to...

this series is that some of the featured guitar parts are not real prominent in the mix and are sometimes hard to hear, though it could be my low-tech boom box I'm using. Also, (and this is no knock on Hal Leonard), because there are no vocals it's sometimes hard to figure out where you're at when the same riff is play until you get to the chorus. Again, learning to follow things like that only make you better player. It makes you really have to listen to know where you're at. I have purchased 7 books in this series.
