He stated that he had a compulsion to finish whatever it was that he started, and that he thought he had probably completed over 80 verses of the song. I have included three in my arrangement. Others can be found online.

My favorite Leonard Cohen recordings of "Hallelujah" have that very deep throaty quality. I try to exploit that style. I favor an assertive strumming approach for this song - Moderato and Forte - at a tempo of about 100 BPS, with a heavy emphasis on the bass strings of the guitar. I can' stress that enough, which is why I have muted that High E string in virtually all of the chords. Search for the melody line in the lower registers. When the song is mastered this way, the guitar can actually substitute for voice in instrumental play.
