This song was recorded in 1966 for The Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds. It was unique due to the unorthodox selection of instruments, including French horn, accordions, sleigh bell, harpsichord and a quartet of violas and cellos heard throughout the piece in counterpoint. The musical structure has been variously cited for its harmonic complexity, inspiring tension through its disuse of authentic cadences. I have arranged the song here for string quartet, but have kept the essence of the original as far as possible. This arrangement is appropriate for any performance situation, including weddings and recitals most typically. It lasts for just over 2 minutes.
