I noticed that quite a bit of the comments rated this piece as intermediate. I think this rating greatly depends on the level of music to which you are accustomed. It also depends on what you are studying. The vocalist who has a good conductor may find this piece simply...

intermediate, but I have rated it as int/adv . . . I am the conductor. :) It is a beatiful with good contrasts and textures. The syncopation is just a joy to learn and conduct. I absolutely love studying III. This would be an advanced choral piece for highschool and most college choirs. Professional to advanced choirs should definitely include this in their repertoire, and would most likely be int/adv. for the experienced. An orchestra with performance experience would probably find this intermediate.

  • December 29, 2008 Gloria is Glorious!

This piece is complex. Our Conductor was so demanding I feared we would never achieve performance level. I love Rock & Roll and Blues. Yet, when it comes to Classical music, I am a purist, preferring to stick with music written before the 20th Century. I was having a hard time...

wrapping my head around the idea of Contemporary Choral Music. My conductor's high standard's and John Rutter's genius won me over before rehearsals were over. Before performance, everything came together. The music had soul and a resonance that I know John Rutter intended it to. A lot of us got 'chills' because the music was so powerful. I know, that sounds corny. If you love Choral Music as much a I do, and if you have ever participated in creating amazing choral music and everything happens just right, you may know the feeling. If you are looking for choral music that is challenging, complex, invigorating and glorious, look no further. John Rutter is revolutionary and a master.

  • May 28, 2007 Well worth it.

Our most advanced choir sang this, and they did John Rutter no shame. It is a wonderful song, with such a wide contrast between the 1st and 3rd movements against the 2nd. He melds in the time signature changes very very slyly.

The mix of Organ, Brass, Percussion and Choir are absolutely beautiful. Rutter really brings the Glory of God to light in this fanomial piece.
