Gaudete is a traditional 16th Century song, originally used by the Monks as a chant at Christmastime.Although it may be sung as written by the whole choir in straight SATB, I would suggest the verses are sung by soloists, from various sections of the choir - the female voice taking the lead, with the male voice taking the harmony 2 bars later. By spreading out the solos & having the choir joining with the chorus this not only makes for an impressive balance of voices, but also makes it less Latin for the performers to learn.Ideally this is a piece that should be sung a capella & makes an impressive opening piece to a Christmas Concert with the choir processing through the audience with lights dimmed, carrying candles / lanterns. As with all of my pieces, training files are available from .
