Folk & Country Waltzes for Fiddle contain 50 well known waltzes fully notated in the book and played on the CD with a full backing band. (play-a-long tracks including melody line played by another instrument). These pieces are all easy to learn. If you do not read music well (or at all) you can pick up the melody from the CD. The book can be used to build a repertoire of waltz music. At live engagements, especially weddings, the audience will always ask for a few waltzes. The material in this book covers a wide range of tempos and styles, not just slow waltzes. The melodies of these pieces are easily recognizable although you may not remember the name of a specific tune. Many of the tunes are very well known such as: Daisy, Home On The Range, Anniversary Waltz, After The Ball, Ash Grove, Greensleeves, Laredo, Scarborough Fair, Star Of The County Down, The Black Velvet Band, The Greenwood Tree, Southwind, The Four Marys, Barbara Allen, Flowers Of The Thorn, Beautiful Brown Eyes, Give Me Your Hand and many more.

  • August 08, 2007 Bare Basics...accompanying CD is painful

This book presents the bare basics of each tune but an intermediate fiddler should be able to add embellishments wherever he/she pleases. My gripe with this book is that the accompanying CD is painful to listen to - it's obvious that the advertised "fully backing band" is the electronic...

organ's pre-recorded tracks. The background tracks are too loud and overtake the main part of the tune which makes it difficult to pick out the tune unless you are skilled at reading the music. This CD did not make me excited about playing any of these tunes. I've bought other book/CD combos that had a real fiddle playing the tunes which lends alot to the learning process and also gets the player excited about playing the tunes.

The scores are extremely sparse, having the bare minimum of bars and notation. If you only want to know the essential tune, this book is okay, but if you're looking for any sort of arrangement you'd want to perform you will not find it here.
