A wonderful work accessible by even young bands, FLOURISH FORWIND BAND by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams is a staple in the repertoirefor wind groups.

This Special Tuba part is a minor adjustment of RVW’s originalpart. As seen in the first sample page, the original contained multiple octavedoublings for the tuba section. While this works well for mature sections with4 or more players, the octave choices present problems for younger players orbands with fewer tuba players. By eliminating the various octave doublings, you:

1.    Remove the necessity of editing the originalpart yourself, telling your tuba/s which octave to play at every spot.

2.     Much cleaner page and easier for the player to read than marking up the original with octaves scratched out or circled, etc.

3.     Ensure that the section plays the same line/octave every time (no options for when they get bored).

4.    Create a more consistent balance among theensemble as some of the notes (low F and G) will be notably softer than theoctave above. If you have only 1 tubist, and they opt for the lowest notes at certain spots, your balance will suffer. And odds are they will have to omit some notes asthey “recover” air from playing the lowest notes.

NOTE: This download consists of 3 pages. The first two “redacted” example pages you will not want to print. The third page is the actual single-line part.
