Throughout the years, the sound of the trumpet has been symbolic of great entrances and celebrations. That sound is featured in this work, and may be played by the organist or a trumpet soloist. • January 21, 2023 A fun piece for the learning organist!

I have very much enjoyed learning and playing this piece. It was just the right level of challenge for me, and provided exposure to new challenges I hadn't yet experienced. As a newer organist, I too would have appreciated a little more detail in registration vis a vis the...

sound that the composer desired, but I appreciate that the registration given is not overly prescriptive. My only major complaint is that the trumpet part omits the "call" of the B section which, per the given registration, is to be played on the 8' solo trumpet, so why should it not be played by the trumpet soloist? Still, it is easy enough to have a good trumpeter learn the part and play it anyway.

  • October 16, 2020 Great song, not the greatest engraving

The song itself is wonderful, but this engraving is a little lacking in direction for the beginning organist (such as myself). Listening to other performers I get the sense that there ought to be more nuance than the given registration notes suggest (e.g. in the B section, I've...

observed that it is common to drop the reeds from the solo, but that's not indicated anywhere here).

  • November 10, 2012 A real Festive tune

This is a great piece of music particularly suited for ceremonial occasions or as a final voluntary on Festive days. (As the title suggests). It is written in three sections, the first setting the scene with a lively tune in the right hand and easy but fast chords in the...

left plus pedals. This is not difficult at all. The middle section is tricky with ascending chromatics, but it can be left out if it is too tricky. The final section is a repeat of the first but in a higher key ending on a real high.

  • July 29, 2012 My New Favorite Trumpet Tune

This is a great, fairly simple piece that I first heard played by my organ teacher once at a recital. David German wrote the piece for his wife for use at their wedding. It works great as a prelude or postlude with or without Bb trumpet solo.It starts out...

fairly easy in the key of F, and then modulates up to F# (which is why I put it as early intermediate instead of easy). The tune is catchy and accessible.I would suggest using Festival Trumpet (or whatever your corresponding stop is called) for the melody, with full Swell coupled to Great for accompaniment, with box closed on parts with solo and box open on parts without. For the fanfares in the middle, I would use a secondary and tertiary solo trumpets (if available) or else Festival Trumpet for the first one and FT with full swell for the second one. Then, use full Swell with Great and slowly crescendo up to the end, ending with full organ.

  • May 08, 2012 What a find!

I had never heard of this piece until a bride-to-be came across it online and asked if I would play it for her wedding as she entered the church. I agreed; it took me only 10 minutes to learn and I have already played it in a recital...

and as an organ voluntary for a Sunday service. It's really refreshing and not at all difficult, yet makes its mark as a very accessible, multi-use piece. It arrived at my home in England in pristine condition - I'm so glad to have found Sheet Music Plus!
