This famous theme by master composer Georges Bizet is transformed into a playable arrangement for youth orchestra by popular arranger Roy Phillippe. Both stately and festive, this piece presents contrasting moods and is great for rhythmic development for.
Georges Bizet's L'arlesienne suites are some of his most popular compositions. Farandole is the exciting finale of L'arlesienne Suite No. 2. It is particularly interesting both rhythmically and harmonically. The piece begins in the key of D minor with the melody harmonized and played forcefully. At measure 9 the violins repeat the melody followed by the viole and celli, canon-style, at measure 10. At measure 16 we modulate to the parallel key of D Major. Celli and basses enter establishing a harmonic pattern at measure 17. The first violins begin in measure 20 supported by the 2nd violins and viole. Begin this section quietly to make effective use of the cresc. poco a poco.At measure 38 we repeat the melody from measure 20, this time with more activity in the accompaniment. At measure 65, the orchestra plays the opening melody in the relative minor key. We return to the original key of D Major building to the end. The piano part is intended for rehearsal only.-Roy Phillippe.
