Composed by Chi-Hsin Yi. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,World. Score. 11 pages. Chi-Hsin Yi #1999319. Published by Chi-Hsin Yi (A0.872934).

This fantasy is based on three Taiwanese songs of the 1930s. The painful tune of Zan-Fu Yao's "Sadness" gives the music an atmosphere of endless sorrow. "Dancing Era", originally a Foxtrot in Yu-Hsian Deng's song, is turned into a brisk theme in 2/4 with a virtuosic variation as a reminiscence of the pre-war Taiwan. The warmth of the major tune of "Wine Cup of Sorrow" (also by Zan-Fu Yao) stands between the two returns of "Sadness" as consolation. Three themes are arranged into a rondo form, giving the fantasy a narrative quality. This fantasy is an independent work, and at the same time, the second movement of Chi-Hsin Yi's piano suite "1930s Taiwan".
