  • June 18, 2012 fantasia for alto saxophone

Claude Smith was commissioned by a true ambassador for the instrument, Master Chief Dale Underwood of the U.S. Navy Band to write this solo for him. It is indeed a virtuoso level piece of music, but well worth the effort for any medium advanced player to add to their...

    solo repertoire.

" I have never once come across a piece that is so amazing in its own unique way. I am a high school who has been playing for 4 1/2 yrs, I chose to tackle this piece months ago. I will be performing it for Solo& Ensemble in 2009. This...

piece is difficult to have perfected articulation with quarter=(126-132) and also many complex rhythms as the time changes from 4/4, 5/8, and 7/8. Accidentals are thrown relentlessly into the song so be careful to play correct notes. The notes range from Middle C to altissiomo A. DO NOT tackle such a composition unless intended on performing in perfect condition. This piece is one of Smith's best and I recommend it for college level saxophonist and/or the selected few extremely advanced high school students. GOOD LUCK!

I wouldn't say much. This piece is for the gifted and most talented saxophonist. Range is wide: Low C# to Altissimo E. Tempo is very fast: quater note=132 and more than half of the piece conists of 16th notes. This piece would be a great preparation for college...

graduates who plan to become professional classical saxophonist. Good luck everyone.
