A one movement piece for trumpet, horn and trombone.  Inspired by these words:

A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease. (John Muir)

I have performed Brian S. Wilson’s “Every Tree Was Excited” several times, and I have found it to be a substantial and very welcome contribution to the brass trio literature, well-received by audiences. This is a concert piece that is appropriate for collegiate or professional-level players, composed...

in a style that is modern and appealing. Although it is by no means an easy piece, the frustrating demands of endurance that plague many brass trio pieces are avoided here by rotating duet passages, giving each of the three players plenty of opportunity for rest. This means that the piece can be programmed without fear of “embouchure death”. At 7-8 minutes, it could be the cornerstone of a shorter performance, or a solid contribution to a longer recital. The writing for each instrument is idiomatic and flashy without unnecessary difficulties. This is a piece that should be in the folders of every brass trio, and any collection of brass chamber music will be enriched by it.
