Ligeti's piano etudes are some of the most splendid works ever composed for this instrument. Every ambitious player is eventually going to examine these milestones of contemporary music literature. The musical community had to wait for new piano works from the pen of Ligeti for quite a long time; now this new volume has been published. From 1997-2001, the Magician of Sound wrote new etudes which pose challenges to the pianist that are revealed only at second glance.

This third volume of etudes consists of pieces that are not as technically demanding as his first two volumes, they're quieter and more reflective. The gem out of them all is White on White which presents a chorale prelude that is then repeated with polyrhythmic accent beats and repeated...

stretches of 8th notes in rapid scales (echoing some of the earlier etudes such as Desordre from Book I).
