    I first heard this etude performed in an audio recording series titled “Glassworlds”— it was my first exposure to Philip Glass’ piano compositions. What intrigued me was Glass’ use of cells in creating melodic contour and the way repetition creates underlying musical textures in contrast to the melodic content. I...

    originally purchased the sheet music strictly for analysis purposes, but the piece was so approachable that I ended up learning to perform it. I would definitely recommend Glass’ etudes to anyone interested in modern & contemporary music—and any pianist who is bored of the usual old-garde repertoire. Cause a stir at your next piano recital, performance, or dinner party—add this to your repertoire ASAP!
