    Difficulty Level:
  • February 21, 2010 One of the two books anyone needs for virtuosity

Dohnanyi's famous technical exercises will teach any aspiring student control over individual fingers as well as other techniques like thirds, fourths, sixths, octaves and chords. This is a great place to gather a ton of technique - the only other books I recommend for technique are debussy's etudes (extremely...

useful - instant virtuosity) in the durant edition and the Joseffy School of Advanced Piano Playing.

I have just begun on this experience and find the challenge very direct as to the essential training to gain each finger's flexibility and independence.

through the control and understanding of the technique (when guided properly). Overall, I would put this book more useful over Czerny. This book also does well with Brahms Excercises!

My teacher recommended these exercises as he believed they were most efficient and effective, and I couldn't agree with him more. They are very demanding of the fingers, and should only be practiced over short periods of time. The big 'pro' of these exercises is that they don't...

take much time, and boy can you feel the difference in both dexterity and independence, even after a couple of minutes if you’re really focussed on what you’re doing. I'm a uni student currently completing a music degree, and they have been a huge help to me, I would highly recommend to anyone who is sick of wasting time with hanon and czerny. If you want results that don't take forever to achieve, then these exercises are for you.
