  • October 08, 2013 Dramatic organ solo for pedals!

"Do Not Go Gentle" was commissioned by New York new music advocate, organist Leonard Raver. Inspired by Dylan Thomas' beloved poem, this substantial work (I'd put the duration at nearly 11 minutes) demands intense concentration from the performer, not only for counting the intricate rhythms but shaping the dramatic...

gestures. Though the style is atonal, the music is intensely lyric throughout. Especially when prefaced with a reading of the poem, audiences respond readily and warmly to this piece. The writing is challenging for the pedals, but completely and ingeniously idiomatic and so never awkward. This fine work deserves to be better known: highly recommended!
