____________

If you find Foundations for Superior Performance in Band a bit overwhelming for you or your students, then this is the method book for your program!

Directional Warm-Ups is a complete teaching system and method for elevating your ensemble's performance.  It is effective for use by mid-level and developing high school bands or advanced middle school groups. Higher-level ensembles will benefit from use of the material for review or at the first of the concert season to reinforce concepts of ensemble playing, tone, intonation, etc.

Directional Warm-Ups addresses playing skills in three dimensions/directions:

  - Horizontal skills include phrasing, melodic nuance, and interpretation. These are developed through melodious unison etudes.
  - Vertical skills, such as ensemble attacks/releases, balance, blend, and intonation are developed through simple chorales that allow the player to clearly hear problems - not only their own, but across the entire ensemble.
  - Depth of playing skill for the individual is accomplished through the use of varying scales, key signatures, rhythms, meters, and terminology.

Directional Warm-Ups contains 16 Learning Units and 20 simple Chorales, each in a different key. Minor scales include natural, harmonic, and melodic forms. Also included are 32 Rhythm Patterns, a Piano Keyboard diagram (for teaching step patterns of scales), and a Glossary of musical terms used in the book. The Full Conductor Score includes several pages of instructions for using the method book along with suggestions for implementing a varied warm-up in order to achieve maximum learning.
