Item Number: S0.6726

"The Rose of Istanbul" in three acts by Leo Fall (libretto by Julius Brammer and Alfred Gruenwald) premiered at the Theater an der Wien (Vienna) in 1916, the same year it was composed. With a typically humorous plot exploring cross-cultural misunderstandings, hidden identities and the like, the work also points to European connections and influences on Turkey in the nineteenth/twentieth centuries (of course from an Austro-German perspective) namely that of France and Switzerland. This is an authorized reprint of the 1916 piano reduction arrangement published by W. Karczag, Leipzig. (The vocal lines are embedded in the reduction without additional staves.) 83 pp.
