This is a transcription I made of the simple and beautiful song "Crepuscule" (Twilight) by French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912) This is a homage to one of my favorite sopranos of the early twentieth century, Amelita Galli-Curci (1882-1963) and to one of my favorite living pianists, Stephen Hough, who has also made a transcription of this piece.I had been tempted to set this song for some time. Go to to see a video of this piece. If this link does not work, copy and paste it into your browser.I used as my basis the original score, and modeled my interpretation after that of Galli-Curci. (Every performance of this piece I have heard, including Hough's transcription, is performed at a slower speed than that in the printed score.) The performer should feel free to use a "singer's rubato", stretching to the high notes.
