    Difficulty Level:
  • February 25, 2019 Genuine, Remarkable, Extraordinary

Sometimes there is a lot of music in the tuba repetoire that doesn't always feel genuine. It can feel as if the solos can be so 'tuba-oriented' that it super-cedes musicality and just turns into showing off. It's like being able to spit 50 feet, it...

's impressive, I suppose. But it isn't extraordinary. On the contrary, this piece, along with a minuscule set of others, is extraordinarily musical and is purely genuine. There's a recording of this piece by Mike Roylance and the Boston University Symphony Orchestra which is quite impactful. It's extremely reassuring that music like this does exist in the tuba repetoire and that it isn't just filled with 50 foot spitballs.
