Great but I'm worried that it won't have a full orchestra accompiment or is to hard to play

It is fun to play and was written with the advice of Philip Catelinet, tubist with LSO. It was without a doubt written for a compensating F tuba that Philip used to premier it under the direction of Sir Thomas Beecham about 60 years ago. Be warned that the composer...

didn't want the high Ab in the Cadenza and he wanted the third movement in the style of a heavy German peasant waltz rather than the fast three so many play it.

This should be in every tubist's library. It's so challenging yet fun to play! This three movement concerto has made me a better tuba player and it will do the same for you!!!

  • January 19, 2009 Excellent piece, very challenging

The Vaughan-Williams is quite an undertaking for a tubist. It is most easily played on an F tuba but I have heard it played on E Flat and BB Flat horns. This is catagorized in "essentials" for orchestral auditions, but is great for college auditions as well f you...

    're up to the challenge.
