Never mind how I discovered this piece (the tale is yet another installment in the annals of geekdom otherwise known as My Life), but it seemed to be a sufficiently obscure and yet eminently worthwhile piece, one that would engage the chops of two of my young hotshot students, and...

might (if they decide to audition for the concerto competition) even be a sufficiently interesting work for the audience too. The 1st cello part is harder--octaves & thirds & stratospheric hurdles--than the 2nd, but the lyrical material (and this is a predominantly lyrical piece in the Mendelssohn/Schumann mold) is quite evenly divided. I'd put the difficulty of the primo parte at about Rococo Variations-ish; the secondo parte is Saint-Saens-ish, I suppose. But wait, that's not all: this is published by International, ergo readily available to all. So how come I've never ever heard of anyone doing it?
