In 1717, Heinichen gained a position in the court of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Coethen (at the same time as Johann Sebastian Bach), going on to be Kapellmeister to the Elector of Saxony. He died on July 16, 1729, and is buried in the Johannes cemetery in Weissenfels.
