I truly enjoy the French School of organ playing as opposed to the German school. They are 2 very different entities. And Dubois is no exception. With his contemporaries (and luminaries) such as Guilmant, Saint-Saëns, Gigout, et al Dubois finds himself in very good company. Barenreiter does, as...

almost always, an excellent job of printing and providing scholarly insights to the music. My only critique of Dubois’s compositional style for organ is that he was composing for the instrument he was playing. Which means that if you aren’t playing at least a 3-manual organ, so much of his compositional flair is lost. This is too bad for people like myself who is a church musician on a 2-manual organ. So, if you don’t have access to a 3-manual organ then this music, unfortunately, will not fit your instrument. Other than this fact, the music is excellent, French 19th-century music, the Belle Epoque of its time. Enjoy.
