This is a great book for the do-it-yourself types. The accompanying CD has tons of tracks and goes from the very simple to rather very advanced; this book alone will keep you busy for over a year. This book is very thorough and methodical and should be considered...

for those who are likely to stick with it and have a desire to become more than just a tinkerer (if you just want to belt out a few campfire that's fine, but you might want another book). The first 6 chapters lay the groundwork and cover background, history, and choosing a harmonica. The next chapters get you going and have tons of exercises and songs. This book is a great complete beginner book, especially for those who are committed. I would also recommend getting 1 other book of easy songs, such as "Absolute Beginners Harmonica w/CD" or "Instant Harmonica" by P. Byrne. With just two books alone you will impress your family in a week or two and have a solid command in a few short months (provided you practice daily).
