Composed by Andrea Morricone and Ennio Morricone. Arranged by Flavio Sala. Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Flavio Sala #6190317. Published by Flavio Sala (A0.893144).

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso perhaps represents the artistic peak of Andrea and Ennio Morricone.

Formerly the soundtrack of the homonymous film (1988) by Giuseppe Tornatore, this music, proposed in any version in any part of the world (even a song with lyrics), has entered the collective imagination of Italians and is, who knows, one of the few melodies by which every Italian feels represented.

The first part of this arrangement is inspired by Pat Metheny's version, recorded on the beautiful album Beyond the Missouri Sky. Reduced to just the guitar, I had to adopt an unusual open tuning: DBGDGD. If untuning the fifth and sixth string is quite normal for those who know the classical guitar repertoire, I cannot say the same for the first string, which is necessary, in this case, for reasons of playability. If on the one hand the string loses its brilliance, on the other it acquires softness and sweetness, matching very well with the nostalgia of both themes.

The second part, the famous Love Theme, is a transcription, very close to the original, not easy to perform, given the difficulties in the left hand, necessary to maintain a sense of legato and cantability.
