By Hank Levy

Jazz ensemble (5-5-5-3) - Grade 5
Composed by Hank Levy. Arranged by Hank Levy. The Stan Kenton Orchestra Library Series. Odd-Meter. Score and set of parts. Published by Sierra Music (S1.SMP-737).

Item Number: S1.SMP-737

This was the first of many "time charts" that Hank wrote for the Kenton Band. This is as exactly recorded on the "Live at Redlands University" CD. The piece in written mostly in 5/4 and features solo space for alto sax and trumpet. This is a remarkable composition which should be in every big band library, not only because it is an historically important work, but also because it's simply a lot of fun to play. 5-5-5-3.

As far as programming goes, you can't lose with this one. It provides the variety you're looking for in a concert program and the students can really dig into it. If you have a reliable trombone section and a rhythm section that isn't timid about odd time...

signatures, GET THIS CHART. Just about every chart Levy wrote for Kenton is worth revisiting.
