"Celestial Seasons" is a four movement piece honoring the seasonal solstices and equinoxes transferring one version of life to another. The Seasons transcend specific place. From beyond Earth planets align, stars navigate, and moons keep watch. The spring melt births into summer's flurry of life releasing all energy into the colors of fall then resting in moment where all things fold the layers ofbeginning and end.
Poems written by the composer, Stephen Wood, accompany each seasonal movement. The fourth movement asks the cellist to sing quiet simple long tones while playing. The soft high voice behind the cello part represents the spirits of a winter forest.
The performance time for all four movements is about 18 minutes.
