Concerto in modo antico (2011) for recorder and strings was commissioned by and is dedicated torecorderist John Turner. The five movements of the work draw upon stylistic elements of Medieval andRenaissance music.I. EstampieII. AriaIII. Echo GigueIV. Ground (in memoriam Lee Hoiby)V. Estampie da capoOrchestra details:A small string orchestra is suggested.String quintet may be used if necessary (although the first violin part in the second movement will benearly entirely double stops).Though it is not preferred, the recorder may be discretely amplified if necessary, particularly if using alarge string orchestra.A piano reduction is provided primarily for rehearsal purposes. If absolutely necessary, the work may beperformed in concert with piano, although the string scoring is vastly preferred.
